The following guide is designed for users who are experiencing problems during the area creation process. Each of the headings refers to one of the inputs that is required in order to create an area from the Password Protector v6.2 area creation screen.
To reach the area creation screen, being by clicking the “Area Management” navigational link found at the top-centre of the AdPass v6.2 administrative control panel. Proceed to scroll down to the section of the resulting screen labelled “Add an Area”. The following information will be requested.
Area Name
Each area that is created using Password Protector v6.2 requires a name in order to be created. The area’s name is a generic means of identifying the area and can be set to anything that you wish, remembering that it cannot be a duplicate of another area’s name.
Area Folder Location
Input the full server path to the directory which you are protecting in this field. Every server has a different full server path, so for this reason you will have to contact your web hosting provider if you are not certain what the proper full server path is. You can also try using the “server information” feature built into AdPass v6.2. To access this feature, direct your browser to, remembering to change “yoursite.com” to your actual domain name and the “/path/to/adpass.pl” to the actual location of the adpass.pl file on your server.
http://www.yoursite.com/path/to/adpass.pl?det_fsp
This screen will display an entry labelled “Base FSP”. For most servers, this is the correct full server path to the base directory of your web site (where the main index file is located). In the event that this path does not function properly, you will need to contact your web hosting provider to request the absolute full server path to the adpass.pl file.
URL to Area Folder
Simply input the URL of the folder which you are about to protect into this field, making very sure to format the inputted URL in the following fashion:
yoursite.com/path/to/area
Replace “yoursite.com” with the your actual domain name. Also replace “/path/to/area” with the path to the folder which you are protecting. Thus, if your domain is “mygreatdomain.com” and the folder that you are protecting is named “private” and is located within the “/members/” folder of your web site, your path would be inputted as follows:
mygreatdomain.com/members/private
Notice that there is no trailing slash “/” after “private”. This is vital to the proper functioning of the protected area.
